Enriching knowledge and enhancing care through health data

Dear visitor,

You are warmly invited to the forthcoming i~HD Annual Conference 2017. It is a joint initiative with EMIF, an IMI funded project. After successful prior i~HD events in Paris (Inaugural Conference, March 10, 2016) and Brussels (First Hospital Network Workshop, 9 February 2017, Brussels), this conference will take place in Madrid on September 21 & 22, 2017. The joint event will be hosted by the Healthcare Research Institute of Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre.

This year, the conference theme is “Realising the Value from Health Data for Improving Care and Research”.

During this two day event the following key themes will be addressed:

Day 1 Thursday September 21

  1. Progressing towards outcomes based and value based healthcare
  2. Showcasing hospital successes in reusing EHR data for research
  3. The perspective and engagement of patients in the research use of health data, and contributing their own data for research

Day 2 Friday September 22

  1. Big Data informatics
  2. Use cases within EMIF
  3. Patient and governance requirements

The speakers

The conference is welcoming keynote speakers representing the Spanish Ministry, European Commission, patient associations, health insurers, policymakers, clinical research and pharma industry perspectives. There will be a strong focus on progressing towards value based health care. Through presentations and panel discussions, participants will find out how hospitals are successfully reusing patient data as Learning Health Systems, and improving their data quality. The conference will also showcase state of the art in clinical research using big health, presenting research findings that could only have been discovered using large scale data and showcasing state-of-the-art in analysing big data. A major part of the conference will be dedicated to patient perspectives on reusing their health data for research.

Organising bodies

i~HD
(The European Institute for Innovation through Health Data)

i~HD is a not-for-profit European institute, with a mission to guide and catalyse the quality, interoperability and trustworthy uses of health data, for optimising health and knowledge discovery. It was created at the end of the EHR4CR to be an independent body to develop best practices in information governance and privacy protection, especially for the re-use of health data for clinical research.
i~HD is also active in supporting better quality and interoperability health data and better uses of health data for all learning health organisations, including hospitals themselves.

EMIF
(European Medical Information Framework)

The EMIF project is a five-year project and during this time it will develop common technical and governance solutions and improve access and use of health data. To this aim, a common Information Framework (EMIF-Platform) will link up and facilitate access to diverse medical and research data sources. To ensure immediate applicability, the EMIF project includes two specific therapeutic research topics that will help guide the development of the Information Framework: the onset of Alzheimer’s disease (EMIF-AD) and metabolic complications of obesity (EMIF-Metabolic). EMIF receives support from the Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Undertaking (IMI-JU) under grant agreement n° 115372, resources of which are composed of financial contribution from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations’ (EFPIA) in kind contribution.
