At our Hospital network meeting in Paris, i~HD announced our General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Taskforce. The new law comes into force on 25th May 2018. 25th May and represents the beginning of a new age for data protection and information security. GDPR offers a unique opportunity for our members to excel when demonstrating trustworthiness to patients, health care providers and the wider innovations community about uses of health data to improve care.
We have decided to establish this task force to help our members and the health data innovations community to understand and comply with the new Regulation, especially when reusing health data for learning and research. The task force aims to develop awareness raising materials focusing on areas of data protection needs tailored to the activities of our members.
We are also hoping to establish regular updates across Member States as GDPR is implemented and how local laws and guidance evolves to take into account the requirements that GDPR brings for protection, transparency and rights for the individual.
In the coming weeks we will have appointed our task force members and we hope to agree our awareness raising curricula, how best to keep abreast of developments and provide updates and advisory on our members’ needs, including documentation, certification and tailored events over the next year.
In the meantime, you can review our slides for more details on the Taskforce and its goals.
We welcome the opportunity to help our members navigate these new challenges and continue to work for the betterment of health and protection of patients and their data. If there is anything in particular you would hope to see the Taskforce working on, please do contact us!
