On Thursday, 10 June 2021 our member organisation MedTech Europe joined forces with EFPIA, from which three of its Pharma companies are also our members, to hold a joint panel discussion on “Unlocking the power of health data: the promise of the European Health Data Space”.
Over 700 people, representing multiple stakeholders across Europe, registered for this online event. The event included a keynote address by Ms Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, European Commission, and a presentation on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) by Ms Ioana-Maria Gligor, Head of Unit Digital Health.
Our President Dipak Kalra was one of the invited panel speakers to discuss the opportunities from making better use of data offered by the EHDS, and the importance of societal trust. One of his main messages to the audience was “Let’s treat data as a pre-competitive good to which all stakeholders can contribute. We need good ground rules for data sharing to turn public acceptance to public enthusiasm.”
