Bart Vannieuwehuyse
Former Senior Director Health Information Sciences of Janssen
During his career of more than 40 years, Bart took on various leadership roles within Janssen R&D, IT and Commercial, at both local and international level. In his last role at Janssen, Bart was responsible for the coordination of data science activities of the BeneLux campus. During his career, Bart has led multiple innovation projects mostly at the interface between business (R&D) and IT. He, e.g., was the coordinator of the EMIF project (European Medical Information Framework), an IMI (Innovative Medicine Initiative) funded project with 56 partners. He was one of the first advocates for re-using patient level data in the 90s. He led the first innovation projects in Real World Data (RWD) and its application in clinical research. He was an active participant in the IMI EHR4CR (Electronic Health Records for Clinical Research) project. The objective of this project was to explore the potential of using routine care data (RWD) in the planning and execution of clinical trials. Bart was instrumental in developing the hospital network for the InSite program, a follow-on of the EHR4CR project. The objective of the InSite platform was to create a federated network of hospital data to support clinical trials (design / site selection / patient selection). Bart was one of the pioneers that started “Healthy Solutions” a J&J daughter company that focused on developing integrated services in the healthcare field. Between 1999 and 2003, he was in the core team that developed the initial Customer Relationship Management (CRM) approach for Janssen EMEA. Bart holds a Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Ghent (BE) and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam (NL).
