On 9-10 October 2024, The European Institute for Innovation through Health Data (i~HD) eSource Scale-Up Task Force successfully held a two-day workshop at Sanofi’s R&D site in Gentilly, Paris in France.

The workshop brought together member representatives from leading organisations, including the University Hospital of Cambridge (CUH), University Hospital of Essen, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Regeneron, Sanofi, and i~HD. The attendees made significant progress in defining the main deliverables aimed at collectively driving and scaling eSource implementation, transforming the design and execution of clinical trials globally.

Achievements from the workshop included the near-finalisation of principal eSource KPIs (D2), a comprehensive set of performance Indicators designed to evaluate the success of eSource-enabled trials across different stakeholders—trials, sponsors, vendors, and sites. Additionally, the Task Force advanced the development of the eSource Playbook (D3), intended as a comprehensive guide and set of recommendations for Pharmaceutical Sponsors, Investigational Sites, and Vendors of ICT products implementing EHR-to-EDC features.

The Playbook’s primary objective is to facilitate the scaling up and widespread adoption of eSource-enabled trials by offering clear, actionable guidance to all stakeholders. It aims to streamline processes and accelerate clinical research, ensuring that the benefits of eSource technology can be effectively realised across the industry. Stay tuned for further updates on our mission to revolutionise clinical trials and make the implementation of eSource technologies a global reality.
