How are effective treatments discovered to help improve outcomes for patients with COVID-19 ?
At the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic there were no approved treatments, consequently an international clinical trial was designed to identify a range of potential treatments.
One outcome of the trial showed that steroids reduce the number of deaths in ventilated patients hospitalised with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.
The collection of patient and other treatment data is global and ongoing. As of 30th July 2021, over 41,460 participants had been recruited to the trial.
This work uses data provided by patients and collected by the health professionals as part of the care and support provided.
