Finding Treatments for COVID-19

How are effective treatments discovered to help improve outcomes for patients with COVID-19 ?

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic there were no approved treatments, consequently an international clinical trial was designed to identify a range of potential treatments.

One outcome of the trial showed that steroids reduce the number of deaths in ventilated patients hospitalised with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

The collection of patient and other treatment data is global and ongoing. As of 30 July 2021, over 41,460 participants had been recruited to the trial.
