Interoperability standards enable health data to be represented and communicated consistently between systems, so that the receiving system can correctly interpret and use the data. Standards connect the data between healthcare organisations caring for the same patient, connect to disease registries and national eHealth platforms, enable medicines regulators to accurately receive clinical trial data, and interconnect big health data repositories to enable large-scale research and innovation.
Data Interoperability Standards
Why we promote the development and use of interoperability standards
i~HD works across stakeholders
Despite a strong portfolio of standards developed by international and national Standards Development Organisations, these are poorly adopted and not always combined correctly for different purposes and data types. i~HD promotes the importance of interoperability and standards, to understand the role of the different standards and their value, and works with standards developers on next-generation standards in areas of health data innovation.
Through sustained membership, i~HD connects Sanofi to European health
data ecosystems programmes, championing ethical, GDPR-compliant research and data quality standards across initiatives like EHR2EDC, IHI EU PEARL, or xSHARE.
