Context and challenge

To achieve and maintain EUSOMA (European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists) accreditation, this hospital must report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that are reliable and transparent. At the same time, these KPIs are used to improve internal breast cancer care and clinical processes.

The challenge was that:

  • KPIs were available, but insights into how they were produced were limited
  • Data was captured across multiple systems and teams
  • Ownership, transformations, and data quality checks were not fully visible
  • It was difficult to explain or defend results beyond the final numbers

Why they needed the Masterclass

They needed support to:

  • Understand where data is first captured and by whom
  • Map how data travels from patient journey to KPI
  • Identify where data quality can be impacted
  • Create a shared, documented approach to handling breast cancer data

i~HD's method helped them move from reporting indicators to trusting and improving the processes behind them.

What the Masterclass delivered

A structured, reusable data quality method that goes beyond indicator calculation and can be applied hospital-wide.

The approach enables the hospital to:

  • Apply a consistent method to any data project where data quality is critical
  • Improve documentation of data flows, ownership, and responsibilities
  • Assess data quality at source and across the full data lifecycle
  • Build confidence in results used for accreditation, quality improvement, and decision-making

Beyond reliable KPIs for EUSOMA, a scalable framework that supports future clinical, operational, and strategic data initiatives.
